Artist Statement

Fernando Muñoz, a self-taught artist from Chile now based in Lisbon, creates art rooted in his life's journey across Santiago, Austin, and Oregon. His work explores dreams and memories, with themes of belonging, loneliness, and melancholy shaped by his experiences with different cultures.

Muñoz finds inspiration in everyday stories from books, movies, and music, drawing on them to connect with his own life. His pieces feel like visual storytelling, where landscapes and portraits act as metaphors for deeper emotions and states of mind, often with a touch of the surreal.

Using a variety of materials—acrylics, drawings, watercolor, collage, ceramics, and photography—he brings his ideas to life, embracing different forms to express his relationship with the world. His art isn’t about lofty ideals but making genuine connections, bridging his past and present experiences, and inviting others to reflect on their own emotions and memories.
