Studio 122 is located at the Canopy Building 1. Artists: Naxieli Gomez Fernando Muñoz Guest Artists: JC Amorrortu Alondra Acosta (AG✯M) One of the most fun projects I had the opportunity to work on! On early march of 2019 I was called by Thirsty Planet to collaborate with them and create a beer for the East Austin Studio Tour. After meeting the brewers and the folks at the company we got our hands in several beers to sample. I worked along Tyrell Elliott on defining the flavor, color, name and look of the beer. After that, it was time to create the artwork, which used some of my imagery. Three Strangers is a combination of three ideas, we wanted a "Dark" beer, that was "Light" and had some "Hoppyness" - The end result was what was called a Mexican Viena Cerveza. Cheers! and Thanks to Thirsty Planet for supporting the local artists! Presenting Thirsty Planet owner, Brian Smittle, with the original artwork for Three Strangers. By Thirsty Planet:
"We made a beer for East Austin Studio Tours! Three Strangers Vienna Cerveza is a collaboration between artist, Fernando Muñoz @energycreativa , and our own Tyrell Elliott. Fernando introduced concepts from his own work into the brewing process, asking how we foster conversation between people within a community through the unexpected. This led to Three Strangers, a dark beer with a bright, crisp taste and a pop of citrus. This Hoppy Vienna Lager meets Dark Mexican Cerveza is less a mash-up of styles, and more a reintroduction of beer’s history in the region. The appearance and taste are having a conversation with you, thus, Three Strangers. . Three Strangers will be available for a limited-time in bottles, starting November 1st, at select HEBs around Austin. Thirsty Planet will be serving Three Strangers during both weekends of E.A.S.T. at Canopy. . East Austin Studio Tours takes place over two weekends, November 16-17 & 23-24. . Studio 122 at Canopy Building 1 916 Springdale Rd. Austin, Texas 78702 This year I was commissioned to organize La Peña Gallery's participation on the Austin West Studio Tour, It has been a great experience thanks to the participation and support of all the participant artist of the show.
Our opening is on May 14th I will be adding pictures as the 2 weekends progress. This month I had the chance to participate in a collective exhibition with a group of Latino Artists. Our exhibition will be on display at La Peña until August 30th.
This year I had the opportunity to participate on the 2015 WEST Studio Tour with a group of fellow Latino artists from Texas. The Tour is during the weekends of May 09-10 and 16-17. But, La Peña tied the tour to an exhibition honoring Gloria E. Anzaldúa, a chicano activist, scholar and artist who used the concept Nepantla in her writings and theories.
Nepantla is a term that in short translates as "in between places" - it was used to identify that cultural "in-betweenness" experienced by people living in the borderlands or living in between two cultures. "Living between cultures results in 'seeing' double, first from the perspective of one culture, then from the perspective of another. Seeing from two or more perspectives simultaneously renders those cultures transparent. Removed from that culture's center you glimpse the sea in which you've been immersed but to which you were oblivious, no longer seeing the world the way you were enculturated to see it." --Gloria E. Anzaldúa The exhibit will be open until May 30th at 227 Congress Avenue. Austin, Texas 78702 An Artist Reception will be held on May 16th - 4-6pm Today is the first time I participate at EAST Austin showing my artwork, I was invited by "Los Cuatro" a group of Latino artist integrated by Liliana Wilson, John Cruz, Carlos Lowry and Cecilia Colomé.
If you can visit us we will be at #286, that is at Liliana Wilson's Studio, from 11AM to 6PM. Below is the map of the location, 1404 Canterbury Street. Austin, Texas 78702: The opening of the exhibit was on November 1st. It was a great evening with a lot of people showing up and with beautiful artwork hanging from the walls. I feel very fortunate to be included in this group exhibit with a lot of different artists. If you are interested the artwork will be on exhibition at La Peña for a few weeks at Congress Avenue and 3rd street.
